I Went To Europe And It Was Okay, Part 7: Thursday, December 23, 1999

We get up early and take a water taxi to the train station. (It's too damn cold for a gondola ride.) This is a different smaller station than the one we arrived at. We were supposed to leave on an earlier train, but we decided to catch a later one. That would be our undoing. The later train we were going to take only runs two days a year, rather than 363 days a year like we thought. We had to take an even later train that caused a chain reaction of missed connections.

We finally made it to Augsburg, about 20km from our final destination, Rotenburg. That was as close as we could get by train at that time, so we convinced a taxi driver to take us the rest of the way. We ended up driving around this town for 20 minutes looking for the Hotel Klosterstüble. With all it's small one way streets, the town is like a medieval Waukesha. We finally make it about 5 1/2 hours later than planned. I think I'm coming down with a cold.
