I Went To Europe And It Was Okay, Part 1: Friday, December 17, 1999

We left Milwaukee to catch our plane in Chicago. Since there is a lay-over in Atlanta, we probably could've planned things better and got a flight out of Milwaukee. What's done is done.12/17/2001 9:51 AM
As we were pulling into O'Hare, we noticed a plane sitting in the grass at the end of a runway, with several trucks parked around it. That can't be good, we thought. We tried to keep the bad thoughts out of our heads, since that's really not the image you want before 8+ hours in the air. We entered the terminal, not sure if we should be there or at the international one. There was a lot of commotion and several flights were canceled for some reason.
When we finally made it to the counter, the man asked if Midway had sent us over. Doh! We were at the wrong airport! Frantically, we asked the man what to do. Many people from the canceled flights were being put on busses to fly out of...Milwaukee. We were sent with them. So, back to where we started. Later, we found out the reason flights were canceled and people being bussed was because of the plane we saw earlier.
The flight to Atlanta was pretty uneventful, except that it barely got us there in time for our connecting flight. We had to run from one end of the airport to the other (of course). Last ones on the plane, but we made it.
The flight to Rome was the usual 8 1/2 hours of Hell. Pretty average, actually. We got two movies; one crappy one starring Anthony Edwards, and Batman Returns. We also got two meals, one dinner and one breakfast. The breakfast was pretty lame, being just rolls and fruit. Like we wouldn't be getting enough crap breakfasts in Europe as it was.
