A Review of the Second Half of Planet of the Apes
9/3/2001 5:31 PM
I have finally seen the second half of Planet of the Apes this weekend. (If you're just joining us, you can read my account of the first half here or here.) I'm happy to report that there were no technical problems during this outing. However, I have to question the judgement of the parents who decided to bring their three-year-old to the 9:50pm showing. But that is a minor quibble.

Now, the movie. I'm wondering if perhaps I was better off not seeing the ending. I was enjoying the movie up until the last ten minutes or so. And then....

What the hell was that?

If you've seen the movie, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you haven't, I'm not going to bother trying to explain it to you. It defies explanation on so many levels. And it's not that I'm some sci-fi newbie dope. I was able to pick up the nuances of Doctor Who in about five minutes when I first saw it at age 13. That ending is just simply illogical.

Tim Burton, you've done better.
